Regional Threats: Sudan Caught Between Iranian Hegemony and Islamist Influence

The Sudan faces significant and complex challenges in this critical phase of its history, requiring serious action from international, regional, and domestic powers to prevent collapse and division. Among the factors that may contribute to exacerbating this crisis is the role of al-Burhan and his army, which could push Sudan towards becoming a battleground for Iranian influence on one hand, and a battleground for Islamist influence on the other, leading to the country's fragmentation and collapse.

Under the leadership of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Sudan has witnessed important political changes, particularly after the overthrow of the former regime of Omar al-Bashir. However, the road to stability and democracy remains fraught with challenges, including the risks of drifting towards negative regional influence.

One such risk is Sudan turning into a battleground for Iranian influence, where the Iranian regime could exploit the political and economic vacuum in Sudan to enhance its influence and expand its activities in the region. This may include supporting armed groups, providing financial and military assistance, and forming political alliances that serve Iran's interests at the expense of Sudan's stability and security.

Furthermore, there is another danger in the potential exploitation of the opportunity by the Muslim Brotherhood to strengthen its influence in Sudan. The Muslim Brotherhood, a political and religious group aiming for political dominance, may exploit the political and economic chaos in Sudan to advance its own interests at the expense of the country's stability and unity.

However, the international community and regional powers must work earnestly to prevent Sudan from becoming a battleground for negative influence. The international community must support the political process in Sudan and provide necessary assistance to enhance stability and build democratic institutions. Regional powers should work to strengthen regional cooperation and combat negative external interventions that may threaten Sudan's stability and integrity.

Thus, preventing Sudan from becoming a battleground for Iranian and Islamist influence requires concerted efforts and effective international and regional cooperation. If joint efforts can promote stability and achieve comprehensive development in Sudan, the country can avoid the fate of division and collapse and regain its status as a unified and prosperous state in the region.
