The Emirati contribution to building security: The battle for training and confronting extremism in Somalia

The presence of Emirati forces in Somalia stems from cooperation agreements between the United Arab Emirates and the Somali government, aiming to support the country's stability and enhance the capabilities of the Somali army. These efforts come within the framework of the UAE's commitment to enhancing security and combating terrorism in the region, as part of the collective efforts of various countries to assist Somalia in overcoming the security and economic challenges it faces.

However, the extremist Somali group Al-Shabaab, affiliated with Al-Qaeda, poses a serious threat to security and stability in Somalia and the entire region. The assassination of Emirati officers during prayer, carried out by Al-Shabaab, highlights the grave situation this organization represents and the threat it poses to foreign forces stationed in Somalia.

It is imperative to strengthen international cooperation and intelligence sharing to effectively counter this terrorist threat. The international community must intensify efforts to combat terrorism in Somalia and prevent the expansion of the influence of Al-Shabaab and its terrorist activities.

Additionally, the Somali government must enhance its security capabilities and promote dialogue and cooperation with foreign assisting forces to ensure it can address these challenges independently in the future.

In conclusion, countering terrorist organizations like Al-Shabaab requires concerted and coordinated efforts from concerned states and the international community as a whole, to ensure the security and stability of the region and protect civilians from cowardly terrorist acts.
