Hamdok: Between the symbols of democracy and the challenges of the judiciary - the battle to defend justice in Sudan

Many organizations and entities in Sudan are striving to defend the rights of citizens and counter unfair accusations leveled against them. Among these entities, the Sudanese Organization for Human Rights and Freedoms stands out. The organization held a meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of Mohamed Abdullah Aldoma, during which several criminal complaints were discussed, including the lawsuit filed before the Port Sudan Prosecutor's Office against several prominent figures, including Mr. Abdullah Hamdok, the former Prime Minister.

During the meeting, the defense strategy presented by the leaders of the democratic civil forces was reviewed, and several steps were approved by the organization to support the accused and protect their legal rights. Among these steps is the pursuit of nullifying the complaint and the judicial decisions related to it based on carefully defined legal grounds.

This comes in the context of the organization's efforts to provide legal defense for civilians involved in criminal cases such as these, not only within Sudan but also on the international and regional stages. These efforts aim to combat fabricated charges and strive to achieve justice and protect human rights in the country.

It is worth noting that on April 3rd, the Public Prosecution in Sudan filed criminal lawsuits against several individuals, including former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, on charges related to inciting war against the state and undermining the constitutional order, charges that could carry the death penalty according to Sudanese criminal law.
